Don't get burned on watches that "might be solid gold!" Almost without exception any case that is "solid" gold is so marked, usually with something similiar to "warranted to assay 14/18K" or Guaranteed to assay 14/18K. U.S. made watch cases marked "warranted 20/25 years are not "solid" gold. Some foreign made cases are hallmarked with the country of origins mark with the karat content in close proximity. Remember that 14K "solid gold" is only five-eights gold. Pure gold is extremely soft, much like lead and is 24K. Recently I ran across two gold hunting case 18 size American Watch Co.cases(The father gepany of Waltham)that were marked with a two headed Eagle, these cases are 16/18 karat gold. These are sleepers! Best way is to get an electronic tester to check, cases, fobs and chains. You may be pleasantley (spell?) surprised at the results.
