We Seem To Have Some Confusion On
What Midge was actually Recalled and which was used to Replace it.
A little history about

The Gril Next Door Midge
Midge first came out in 1963. She was the girl next store perfectlyportrayed with her red hair and freckles. She actually became Mattel's number one selling doll for many years. Much later after her high school romance her and her boyfriend Allen decided to tie the knot.
In 1991 Midge and Allen got married. It was a grand affair and one to remember in the Barbie World. Later Ryan made his debut and was given to us as a toddler the adorable age of 3.
The pregnant Midge was made to give girls a since of being able to nurture their own baby through the love of their Barbie Doll Midge. It was also to help mothers explain were babies came from and could be used as a teaching tool.As well as for the ability to play Doctor to her with Doctor Barbie. Mattel was very proud of their idea and quickly put it into place. But one thing they did not expect was the up roar it caused them.
The First Issue Pregnant Midge was made in 2002. She and the Replacement had a removable tummy with Magnets. This was not the real reason for the recall.
Which Doll Was The Doll That Caused This Uproar
THE TRUE RECALLED MIDGE
This Midge that had many thousands of Barbie loving Moms upset. The Midge inside the box looked as tho Mattel wasencouraging teen pregnancy. Many children who play with Barbie are very young and still to this day have Barbie as their role model.
The feeling was
"IF BARBIE CAN DO IT SO CAN I."
Mothers and Fathers alike did not want this for their daughter. They joined together which was the one of the biggest protest of a Barbie doll to date. It was not due to the magnet tummy as some still belive. It was because of the way she was portrayed in the box.
Pregnant Midge WITH NO PAPER CUT OUT OF ALLEN OR RYAN in the background.( I will add pictures later). This is the one that was Controversial and the only one in the history of the pregnantMidge dolls that were pulled off the shelfs. It was due to the fact you see no husband in the back ground. The paper cut out of Allen and Ryan are not in the box.
This doll came with many wonderful items as well.This came with 11 1/2 inch Barbie Doll Midge, Baby Nikki, 3 in 1 changing table,crib (cot),cradle, Outfit, Shirt, Blanket,Bottle with Bottle warmer, Baby Monitor, Baby Wipe and Baby Wipe Box, Baby Powder, Baby Shampoo, Niki Teddybear and a Rattle and her receiving Blanket. She was incased in cardboard with the word above her that say Its a Girl. But with no husband to stand by her side. She looked like a single mom and this is what got her in sooo much trouble.
Walmart Giant was the first to have a Nation wide pull. They quickly took her off the shelfs.Mattel issued a Nation Wide Recall of this doll. She was fast replaced with the
REPLACEMENT MIDGE
In this set you will see Midge Baby Nikki and in the background you will see on looking at the new little bundle. Allen and Ryan in a paper cut out. This set came with many of the very same items. Almost down to a tee.
Mattel also made another Pregnant Midge wich is Very Rare and Hard To Find. So check to see if you are one of the lucky ones. On the cut out that incased the baby above her head it says.Boy Or Girl? Great Marketing and Rare as can be. I have mine do you have yours. Go Check.
